“Adler smoothie” (green smoothie recipe)

Smoothie

I’ve been experimenting with some green smoothie recipes – while I looked a few up on the internet, I’ve generally just used them for inspiration, and not really followed any of them.

I’ve named this one in commemoration of Eintracht Frankfurt football club (nickname, ‘die Adler‘ / the Eagles), after their fantastic 2012/13 season performance – they drew 2-2 with Vfl Wolfsburg this afternoon to achieve qualification for the Europa League (season 2013/14). Nice job!

Ok, back to the smoothie. Quite simply, I just stuck all the ingredients in the blender. Here’s the recipe:

To be Elite

Christmas 1984 – I received a present from my parents, ‘Elite‘, a ‘space simulation’ computer game for my BBC Micro ‘B’ (cassette version, back in the day when games would take several minutes to load, accompanied by an audible screeching noise …).

Steve Jobs, RIP

Courtesy of YouTube/StanfordUniversity

Of course, most people will see this post as coming very late. More than a year late. Steve Jobs died on October 5, 2011. He was, of course, known for his leadership of Apple, towards becoming the most valuable company in the world, and the drive behind numerous innovative products (iPod, iPhone, iPad, etc.).

But Steve Jobs was also (eventually, if not always earlier) the inspiration for many. His passion, on stage delivering new product launches; his drive to deliver; his dedication to perfection; his creative instinct; his personal ‘turnaround’ (founding Apple, leaving Apple, returning to Apple, and his ultimate success at Apple).

What’s going on? [July 2012]

Some things that I’m reading, following, or that simply ‘resonate’ with me right now:

  1. Quora (a social ‘Question and Answer’ platform)
  2. The ‘Higgs Boson’ discovery

More on these via the link below. I’ll probably post a few more of these, as an abbreviated blog post alternative (and instead a ‘full’ post for more specific topics when I want to go into more depth).

Jolly Pilgrim; jolly good read

The Jolly PilgrimImage courtesy of thejollypilgrim.org

I’m just off the back of finishing reading ’The Jolly Pilgrim’, by Peter Baker, and since I’ve enjoyed reading it, I thought I’d write a short review of it, and share some reflections.

The book is a mixture of travel diary / journal / writings (London, Istanbul, Australia, India, Latin America, and some places in between), and broader reflections / musings on life, “who we are”, and where humanity is heading.

ARCHIVE: My favorite blogs

When I first set up my blog, I included a number of ‘pages’ (the grean ‘tabs’ along the top of the screen) – some of those pages need updating (I’ll try to get around to that at some point).

I’ve decided that others, like the post about my favorite blogs, simply need to be deleted (or at least archived, then removed as a page).  So, the article, as it was originally posted (18 April 2009), is below.

In this particular case, regarding favorite blogs, I’ve found that I come across so many new blogs that I like to follow, and older ones that I have followed are in the meantime (in some cases, not all) no longer of such interest to me (either my interests have developed, or the blog itself has changed, or become stale). Nevertheless, not to detract from the blogs listed below – they all had a helped influence my own blog.

The Perfect Innovative Market

I’ve been contemplating a concept for a while, struggling to put it into words, and this evening it just dropped into place.

Just as there is a theoretical definition of a ‘Perfect capital market‘, there can be a theoretical definition of a ‘Perfect innovative market‘.  And just as how many capital markets are highly efficient, but perhaps not quite perfect, innovation has become highly efficient (albeit perhaps not quite perfect).

Timelapse Frankfurt, by ‘ALPHAPIXELS’

In a similar vein to a previous post, Frankfurt/Main by ‘shootingnik’, I recently came across this excellent timelapse video by @alphapixels, which I like, and wanted to share – again, I think it’s a great ‘advert’ for Frankfurt, highlighting its diversity and beauty, and the v ideo visits a number of Frankfurt’s key landmarks:

“Timelapse from our beautiful city Frankfurt am Main.

Shot by Canon 5D Mark ll 24-70 f2.8 L and some (Nikon) Stuff…

watch in 720P HD”

RSAnimate talks

Most followers of this blog know that I’m a fan of TED talks.  I’m also a fan of RSA organisation talks, in particular the fantastic animated talks, whereby animated videos are played simultaneously in parallel with a talk/speech on a given topic.

The animated videos, generally 10-11 minutes long, consist of speeded up video of whiteboard sketches / caricatures based on the content of the respective talk, made to appear as if drawn in real-time as the speech is given.

Further in this post I’ve embedded video links to several more RSA Animate talks.

Captain Groovy and his Bubblegum Army (1969)

YouTube video courtesy of ‘mistermadness1′

From yesterday evening’s little jaunt down to Dreikönigskeller in Frankfurt: Captain Groovy and his Bubblegum Army.

Written by Sal Trimachi and Ritchie Cordell, it was originally intended to be the soundtrack to a cartoon series titled ‘Captain Groovy And His Bubble Gum Army’, but it never got off the ground. Joey Levine, lead singer of The Ohio Express, provides vocals on the record.

This led me to reading about a genre of music, Bubblegum pop (isn’t Wikipedia wonderful?!) – lots of references to Super K Productions team of Kasenetz and Katz, who were also behind Ohio Express’ and Captain Groovy’s exploits.
